A Tech
Dynamic all-rounder, slightly energetic with great contrast in the uppermids and bass. Solid tech, and sound is different enough from other $100 sets. Good sidegrade to safer picks like SM4, NOVA, EM6L. Uppermids can be peaky on certain songs, and not as smooth as nova/em6l/sm4, but more engaging with better dynamic contrast.

Average Technical & Tuning Grades

Average Tunign Grade

A-
  • Tuning lands in a pleasing sweet spot with mostly coherent frequency integration. Tonality stays consistent from track to track.

Average Technical Grade

A-
  • A competent technical showing keeps separation intact while delivering modest staging. It feels tidy even when recordings stack layers.
Gaming A-
Good fundamental spatial awareness for most gaming scenarios. Handles basic positioning well but may lack nuance in complex situations.

Kotori Audio Dauntless Scorings

Average Technical & Tuning Grades

Average Tunign Grade

D+
  • The tuning lacks refinement, jumping between dull and shouty without settling. Vocals frequently sound off-kilter.

Average Technical Grade

B-
  • An honest, middle-of-the-road performance preserves structure without chasing micro-detail. It's respectable for everyday listening sessions.
Bass D+
Bass remains light-handed, hinting at rumble without delivering real weight. It keeps out of the way but never excites.
Mids D+
Mid frequencies swing wildly, colouring vocals and instruments unpredictably. Instruments trade places unpredictably.
Treble C
Expect serviceable treble that keeps detail audible without much polish. It keeps the highs audible without elegance.
Soundstage C+
You start to perceive distinct rows of players even if the ceiling still feels low. Layering is present but still modest.
Details B
Recordings feel well sorted, with supporting details snapping to attention. Small articulations remain intact.
Imaging B-
The stage feels orderly, guiding your ear across positions without confusion. Depth layering is hinted and believable.
Gaming C+
Fundamental left/right positioning with limited depth perception. Works for non-competitive gaming but lacks precision.
